Will Flower Rentals be the Next Big Thing?

Russians love International Women's Day. Sometimes called Russian Valentines Day, March 8th is a public holiday and the single biggest flower selling day of the year in Russia.

Unlike Valentines Day the focus is on women, with men and women giving flowers to mothers, sisters, daughters and coworkers as well as wives and girlfriends.

This year, the BBC is reporting that Russians who want to impress their social media followers can now rent huge bouquets of flowers to snap a selfie with them for Instagram before the courier takes them back. Pop-up services advertised on social networks prior to International Women's Day offered 10 minutes with a huge bouquet of flowers - all the time you need to post a photo of yourself with an enormous flower arrangement seemingly sent by a boyfriend or secret admirer.

When the owner of one flower rental Instagram account was contacted to confirm the story he insisted his service was real saying flower rental had been a trend among Russian Instagram and VKontakte social network users for some time. He said the 10 minutes could be extended a little but not indefinitely.

If you want to be able to appreciate your flowers for longer than 10 minutes, order your bouquet from our Papamoa florists at Arrange Floral Design. We will put together a beautiful bunch of great value freshly cut flowers just for you, including free local same day delivery. And the courier won't take them back!

Best selection of Floral Tips and Tricks

Get inspired this autumn with these floral tricks that will help you make the most of your flowers and floral arrangements.

Don't throw away flowers with short stems. Think outside the vase! They would look beautiful displayed in a vintage teacup, for example. Keep the stems together using a clear hair tie.

Open closed flower buds quickly. After cutting the stems, put them in a glass of warm water first, then cold water. Leave them for 20 minutes.

Keep your flowers longer. By adding several drops of vodka and a teaspoon of white sugar to the water before putting your flowers in a vase to delay wilting. When your flowers eventually do start to die (sad face), add a shot of vodka into the water and the stems will stand up straight again for a day or two.

Water your orchid with an ice cube. An ice cube is ideal because it melts slowly, watering your orchid by releasing a slow drip that won't drown it.

Keep your flowers from falling out of shallow vases. To keep short flowers from falling out of shallow vases, make a grid with clear water-resistant tape and insert flowers to fill in the holes.

Dry flowers. Get another life from your flowers by tying the ends of the stems together with s ribbon and hanging them upside down in a cool space to dry them.
